内容記述 | In medieval Germany there was a social group called einlopeliude (=losjungere) in manorial society. This group consisted of sons and daughters who did not inherit their fathers' holdings. They were forced to remain unmarried and were excluded from the manorial community. On this point, they were similar to slaves. Their single life, however, was in general a stage between leaving home and marriage, i. e. a stage in their life that lasted until they get holdings. When they got tenants' land, they could obtain the right to take part in the manorial community and local genossenschaft. On this point, they were different from slaves. In short, they had two natures. I regard the exclusion of einlopeliude from the manorial and local communities as an essential feature. It is for this reason that they were compelled to leave home, and go out into the medieval town where they had a chance to find a job. While remaining in the village, they looked after the households of youg couples without sufficent people to do the work needed to run the farm. They seem to be a kind of life-cycle servant in the medieval Germany. | |||||||||||
