内容記述 | Brian Snow, Richard Shutler and their colleagues discovered concrete evidence of the rice remains in the Neolithic period in the Andarayan Site, Solana, Cagayan, northern Luzon. They were the rice glumes and husks found in the paste of the pottery excavated. One of the rice remains was dated to 3400±125B.P. This first discovery of the rice remains in northern Luzon is very important for the study of the beginning and the development of the rice cultivation in the Philippines. However, they gave only the brief description of the location of the site. Therefore, I discussed the location of the Andarayan site and its relation to the course of the Cagayan River. My discussion is based both on our own exploration with Ms. Amalia de la Torre and others in November 4, 1993 and on the comparison of the two topographic maps which were made in different periods; One was made during late 1940's and early 1950's. The other was made during the 1980's. The comparison of two topographic maps revealed that the course of the Cagayan River near Solana between the late 1940's and the early 1950's had changed in 1980's. By this fact, I assume that there were frequent changes of the course of the Cagayan River in the past. This is considered to be an essential element to discuss the location of the early rice growing area. | |||||||||||
