Following a background discussion of general L1 influences, this paper goes on to illustrate how transfer occurs within larger discourse patterns and generally with language in context. Examples from student-generated conversations are provided first of L1 lexical and syntactic influence and then of more contextualized language of the type described in a number of studies involving sociolinguistic or pragmatic transfer. The conclusion looks at implications for curriculum and evaluation design which might build on different aspects of pragmatic failure.","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_3_source_id_1":{"attribute_name":"雑誌書誌ID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN1038070X","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_3_text_6":{"attribute_name":"著者所属(日)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"千葉敬愛短期大学国際教養科"}]},"item_3_text_7":{"attribute_name":"著者所属(英)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_language":"en","subitem_text_value":"Chiba Keiai Junior College"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"ケイシー, J.
